Brief History and Present Status of the Odisha Community

On 13 September 2014, the Most Rev. Bishop of the Diocese of Berhampur, Odisha, invited the Hospitaller Brothers of St. John of God to extend their ministry in the Diocese in accordance with the charism of the Order.

On 28 February 2015, the Province purchased a parcel of land in Odisha, and the registration of the property was duly completed.

On 6 June 2016, a religious community was established with Bro. Benedict OH and three students from Odisha, marking the beginning of the Hospitaller presence in the Diocese.

On 25 March 2019, the Community obtained the necessary government permission to operate a Rehabilitation Centre for Persons with Mental Disabilities (18 years and above).

At present, the Centre provides care and rehabilitation for six persons with mental disabilities.

The Community is currently under the leadership of Bro. Pius Manithottiyil OH, who serves as the In-charge. He is assisted by Bro. Shiju Nanthikattu OH and Bro. Sudhir Tirkey OH in carrying out the mission of hospitality and compassionate care entrusted to the Community.
